1. General Principles

The Institute of Central Computation and Knowledge Inc (ICCK) respects the intellectual property rights of authors and promotes responsible sharing of scholarly work. Licensing and copyright arrangements vary according to the publishing model chosen by the journal and the author.

2. Licensing Models

Fully Open Access Journals

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Authors retain copyright of their work while granting ICCK the right to publish and disseminate the article. The CC BY 4.0 license allows anyone to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
  • Provided that proper credit is given to the original author(s) and source.

Hybrid Open Access Journals

For journals operating under a hybrid model, authors may choose:

  • Open Access Option: Publish under CC BY 4.0 with full author copyright retention, subject to an Article Processing Charge (APC).
  • Subscription Option: Publish under traditional copyright transfer.
  • Free to Read Option: ICCK may designate some subscription-based articles as Free to Read, granting unrestricted reader access while copyright arrangements follow the subscription model.

Subscription-Based (Traditional Model)

In cases where articles are published under the subscription model, authors typically transfer copyright to ICCK while retaining the following rights:

  • The right to use their article in teaching, presentations, or academic sharing.
  • The right to deposit accepted manuscripts (preprints or postprints) in institutional or subject repositories, following journal self-archiving policies.
  • The right to reuse figures, tables, or data in future publications with proper attribution.

3. Author Rights Comparison

Fully Open Access Journals

  • Authors retain full copyright under CC BY 4.0 license
  • Free to use, distribute, adapt, and build upon their work
  • No restrictions on commercial or non-commercial use
  • Can deposit in any repository without embargo
  • Maximal compliance with funder mandates

Subscription-Based (Traditional Model)

  • Copyright typically transferred to ICCK
  • Right to use in teaching and academic sharing
  • Can deposit accepted manuscripts in repositories
  • Subject to embargo periods (journal-specific)
  • Can reuse figures/tables in future publications

Hybrid Journals

  • Author choice of licensing model
  • OA option: CC BY 4.0 with full rights
  • Subscription option: traditional copyright transfer
  • Flexibility to meet funder requirements
  • APC applies for open access choice

Author Rights Summary: ICCK ensures that in all publishing models, authors retain sufficient rights to disseminate and reuse their work in compliance with the chosen license or copyright transfer agreement.

4. Third-Party Materials

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use copyrighted materials (such as figures, tables, or images) owned by third parties. Such permissions must allow for publication under the chosen license (e.g., CC BY 4.0 for open access articles).

Important: For open access articles, third-party material permissions must be compatible with CC BY 4.0 licensing. Authors should confirm with copyright holders that materials can be published under this license.

5. Compliance with Funders

ICCK's licensing and copyright policies are designed to comply with international funder requirements, including Plan S, the NIH Public Access Policy, and the European Commission Open Access Mandate. Authors should check specific funder mandates to ensure alignment when choosing licensing options.

6. Transparency

Each ICCK journal clearly indicates its copyright and licensing terms on its website. Authors are informed of licensing requirements during submission and publication. Any changes to licensing policies will be communicated transparently to the research community.
