1. Open Access
Open Access refers to making published articles and data immediately, permanently, and freely available online for the public to read, download, and share. Articles in ICCK's open access journals are published under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0) which permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, as long as the original work is properly cited.
2. Permission and Copyright
All journal articles published by ICCK and marked as open access are available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). This license allows users to:
- Read, print and download articles free of charge
- Disseminate and reproduce the content
- Alter, transform or build upon the material
- Use the content for commercial and non-commercial purposes
The only requirement is that proper attribution is given to the original author(s). The CC BY license is considered the industry "gold standard" for open access and is preferred by many research funders.
For all Open Access articles, authors retain the copyright to their work.
3. Traditional Subscription Journals
For ICCK journals not designated as open access:
- Copyright is typically held by the publisher or author(s)
- Access may require a subscription or purchase
- Reuse permissions vary by journal
- Authors may self-archive post-prints according to each journal's policy
4. Identifying Open Access Journals
ICCK's open access journals are clearly marked with:
- The open access icon
- Explicit statement of CC BY 4.0 licensing
