He Jiahuan, who earned his Ph.D. from Southwest Petroleum University, has been dedicated to research in petrophysics, oil and gas seepage theory, and experimental technologies since joining the Exploration and Development Research Institute. He has led or participated in over 20 scientific research projects, including the National 973 Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Central Government Guides Local Science and Technology Development Project. As of November 2025, he has applied for more than 70 patents, prepared and revised 2 national and industry standards, published 37 papers in SCI-indexed and other journals, and received 14 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards. Focusing on the technical requirements for physical properties and fluid identification in marine carbonate rocks and shale reservoirs, he has innovated and developed a series of research achievements. His representative inventions include: 1) Independently developing shale permeability testing technology and constructing China’s first shale gas permeability tester, ending the historical reliance on foreign companies for this technology. This innovation has been applied in over 180 wells, contributing significantly to the cost-effective development of shale gas in China. 2) Inventing radial resistivity testing technology to address the challenge of anisotropic evaluation in cylindrical core samples. The patented technology is now being licensed to foreign companies, symbolizing a transformative leap in China’s core analysis capabilities—from technology import to export, and from “catching up” and “keeping pace” to “taking the lead.” Throughout his career, he has been honored with numerous awards, such as “Sichuan Craftsman,” “Youth Pioneer of Innovation and Efficiency in Sichuan Enterprise Systems,” and “Nominee for Innovative Master Craftsman.” He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Engineering in Innovation Leadership at Tsinghua University.
